What is the Eagle Valley Habitat For Wildlife?
We started as a grassroots group in the Brush Creek area that was concerned for the animals that inhabit our beautiful valley. We are now working for a common cause and hope to enlist many new people to join our effort.
What is our common cause or mission?
To protect and preserve the bio-diverse habitat of wildlife in the Brush Creek Area.
What is a bio-diverse habitat?
It is all encompassing. It includes all species of life from the bottom of the stream to the highest plateaus in the valley.
Why are we doing this now?
| |
Three reasons: |
| |
1) 2 large parcels of land are waiting in the wings for development. These 2 parcels are the last pieces of significant size in the Brush Creek Valley. If we don't move now, the opportunity will be lost |
| |
2) "Where will the elk go?" A large herd of approx 600 elk have moved into the Brush Creek Valley every fall, winter, and spring. According to the Department of Wildlife, without a portion of the valley floor open, they will be forced to stay in the mountains where the winters are significantly harder for them. |
| |
3) During a call to action to generate input for the Eagle Area Community Plan update, it became evident residents from both Brush Creek as well as the residents of the Town of Eagle, were very concerned for the future of Brush Creek wildlife and the immanent development of its vast meadows. This process resulted in over 10,000 comments from the citizens giving a clear mandate that they wanted this area preserved. The timing is right to move forward with an alternate plan for this land. |
Where are the proposed lands located?
The target area is southeast of the Town of Eagle. It borders the town on its southern boundary close to the ice rink and swimming pool and continues along the left side of Brush Creek Road 2.9 miles. Specifically, the properties are referred to as the Haymeadow and the Upper and Lower Adams Rib Ranch. The two areas encompass 660 acres and 1034 acres respectively, for a total of 1694 acres. We hope to work with current property owners, explore options that are mutually agreeable, and acquire as much property as possible.
So what are some of the issues, goals, and concerns brought up by the Eagle
Area Community Plan Update that could effect Brush Creek?
*Preserve view corridors
*Preserve existing ecosystems and riparian habitat
*Preserve rural and western heritage with their historical native and agricultural land
*Preserve our unique small town character and most importantly,
*Protect our wildlife habitat.
